LOOKOUT x UNSEEN

October 20, 2021

The curse of the instagram grid has made me realise how much content is stored away unseen. My background in film has built a fairly strict rein on overshooting a scenario, but I’m still a heavy scrapbooker and get a buzz from the narrative of a scene when I get going. I’ve dug out a selection of favourites from previous projects, aesthetically beaming with a tone I still feel strongly about. I’ll post some highlights on my socials, along with some prep-notes which explore the process.

LOOKOUT! was a collaborative series, entirely street cast, with styling by Rebekah Pledger. We shot at The Shoe Factory in Norwich on a day in December before Covid hit. Imagine the energy locked away in the months that were to follow?

LOOKOUT! Is a mixed medium concept by Emmaalouise Smith, in collaboration with Rebekah Pledger.
The portraits are heightened, exploring the importance of self, in a time of unrest. Shot whilst 36 weeks pregnant during a two day residency at The Shoe Factory, the week of the election. We’re talking youth uproar, power and revolt, taking note from the punk sensibility of a time gone by.
